Ride with Us!

CET is open to all students of the five Claremont Colleges.  At the beginning of each semester, we schedule interested students in carpools according to availability and riding experience. If you're ready to commit to riding, then fill out the three forms linked below: one is for availability, other is for your level of riding, and the third one is to be added to the roster. The third form is located below the details section. You do not need a car, your own horse, or any prior experience to join the team! If you're unsure or have any questions, feel free to email us: claremont.equestrian@gmail.com

Availability Form: At this time due to the lower number of riders it would be best if you contact the coach directly

COSTS

Vanessa offers packaged lessons, which will total around $300 a month.  Due to limited support from the colleges, the Equestrian Club also has semester dues of $30 for recreational riders and $60 for show team members.  We also offer lesson subsidies (availability varies) for students who wouldn't be able to ride otherwise.  Vanessa has helmets that you can borrow, but it is also recommended that you get your own equipment - it's easier and more comfortable!  You can get a basic starter kit (helmet, paddock boots, and half chaps) for less than $100.  Riding Warehouse provides team members with a discount (email for code), and team members also often informally borrow gear from one another. You may choose to enter into the subsidy raffle, but only 1 spot will be offered to every school, but pitzer and the captains will convene and decide who is the best candidate accordingly.

COMMITMENT

All riders are required to take weekly lessons and help at one fundraising event per semester.  Additionally, showing riders are required to attend the entirety of each show they participate in and either Friday afternoon or Sunday evening trailering to help with horse care.  All riders (competitive and recreational) help with horse care, logistics, and fundraising efforts at our home show.

COMPETITION

IHSA shows are collegiate competitions designed for all experience levels, from beginning riders to those with 3'6"+ experience.  Riders fill out a questionaire at the beginning of the year to place them in an appropriate division, from Walk-Trot to Open.  All of the horses are provided by the surrounding facilities and schools.  There is no warm-up time before the rider steps into the ring on a randomly-assigned horse and begins either a jumping course or a flat class. Each team enters riders distributed throughout the divisions, and accumulate points based on individual results.
